In the market for cruelty-free, eco-friendly, vegan clothing options that are as cute and trendy as they are ethical? We’ve got you covered.
First on our list is Vaute (a play on “Haute” Couture but with a “V” for vegan!) The cruelty-free line, founded by Chicago native and #GirlBoss Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart, originated with a pretty revolutionary idea: design a slim, well-fitting winter coat using high-tech, animal-free textiles that is both stylish and functional. Convincing consumers that vegan fibers could be woven into warm coats comparable to the wool and fur versions they relied on for protection during cold Chicago winters presented a challenge, but Hilgart persevered. Now in its seventh year, Vaute has expanded to include sweaters, tee shirts, hats, hand bags, jewelry, and mens clothing.
We’re loving Vaute’s chunky knits, which come in a variety of neutrals.
Next is Della, a socially-responsible company that gives more than it gets (Literally! Every dollar earned is used to educate and empower their employees.) Founder Tina Tangalakis combined her “love of art and humanitarian work” by creating an all vegan fashion and accessory line. Della’s cute crop tops and patterned rompers are created with sustainably sourced materials from the Volta region in Africa and are available at retailers such as Urban Outfitters. In addition to using sustainably sourced textiles, Tangalakis set up a factory in Ghana, West Africa where employees are “given an opportunity to build a foundation for a better life through jobs, education and skills training” Della also uses profits to fund programs like Weekly Literacy Classes which teaches workers to read and obtain high school diplomas, Weekly Money Management Training which provides business and investment skills, and Child Care.
Though Della has a lot of cute clothes to choose from, we’ve added these MacBook computer cases to our Must-Have list!
We couldn’t create a list of beautiful, trendy, vegan fashion companies without mentioning Mat and Nat (short for materials and nature.) Inspired by the serene, simplistic beauty of the natural world, Mat and Nat handbags are sleek, uncomplicated, and elegant. Designed with clean lines and soft, leather-like fabrics, Mat and Nat bags have an undeniably luxurious quality while still being durable enough for every day use. The company’s aim to “Live Beautifully” inspired the use of eco and animal-friendly materials like cork, rubber, and recycled plastic bottles. According to the website, they keep an average of 120,000 recycled bottles out of landfills per year!
The expansive line offers everything from totes and hobos, to cross-body bags and clutches. We’re loving this unique geometric design!
Thanks to these innovative, ethical fashion houses, it’s easier than ever to flaunt your vegan style! Happy shopping!
